Milngavie Choir - Our Concerts

Rutter's Requiem

St Paul's Church proved the perfect setting for John Rutter's Requiem, the main work in Milngavie Choir's spring concert on 24 March 2007. The Requiem dates from as recently as 1985 and has been described as one of the best loved and widely performed choral works of the twentieth century. Also on the programme was Mozart's Missa Brevis in B flat, a tuneful and bright work written when the composer  was only 21.

Distinguished soprano soloist Wilma MacDougall joined the choir for the performance, as did a fine ensemble of musicians, and Derek Norval was the guest conductor.

Carmen

Milngavie Town Hall was transported to the warm climes of Seville on 19 March 2005 when Milngavie Choir performed a concert version of Bizet's popular opera Carmen, with guest soloists and accompanied by an instrumental ensemble.

The seductive Carmen was sung by Taylor Wilson, who enjoyed acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe last year after a successful year on the Continent. Scottish-born Graham Lister returned from Florence specially to sing the part of Carmen's rejected lover Don José. Joan Dillon, a familiar figure on the Scottish music scene, played Micaela, while Jonathan Hawkins took the part of glamorous bullfighter Escamillo.

Our inspired pianist Maria Manias was joined by three more young musicians on cello, violin and flute to form a faultless instrumental ensemble.
